Student Travel Scholarships and Awards

The deadline for Student Travel Scholarship applications for the IAFP Annual Meeting was Tuesday, January 23, 2024.  

  • IAFP 2024 Student Travel Scholarship Program

    The International Association for Food Protection recognizes that students from around the world are the future leaders in the field of food safety. Since 2004, the IAFP Foundation has been dedicated to enhancing the career potential of exceptional students through the annual IAFP Student Travel Scholarship Program, which provides full funding for attendance at the Association’s renowned Annual Meeting.

    For the 2024 program year, it is our pleasure to support the travel of up to 20 qualified students to attend IAFP 2024, to be held July 14-17 in Long Beach, California to students from North America, from outside North America, and from countries with developing economies, as determined by the Selection Committee.

    Deadline for applications is Tuesday, January 23, 2024 from IAFP Student Members who are enrolled full-time in a graduate or undergraduate program related to food safety. Past scholarship recipients are not eligible to apply. The criteria, which includes instructions on the electronic application process, is available below. Applicants are advised to read the criteria and application process carefully to ensure that all required documents (4 maximum for graduate students, 3 maximum for undergraduate students) are included and emailed to studenttravel@foodprotection.org. Notification of the Selection Committee’s decisions will be communicated to all applicants by March 19, 2024, and scholarship recipients will be formally recognized at the Opening Session of IAFP 2024 on July 14.

  • IAFP European Symposium Student Travel Scholarship

    Applications for the 2024 European Student Travel Scholarship were due on Tuesday, 9 January 2023.

  • IAFP 2024 Student Technical and Poster Award Competition

    IAFP is pleased to offer two student award competitions. Join the competition when submitting an abstract!

    The Developing Scientist Competition is for technical and poster presenters who are students and recent graduates in the field of food safety research. Qualified individuals may enter either the technical or poster competition. Three technical and three poster awards will be given at IAFP 2024. Click here for more information.

    The Undergraduate Award Competition is for poster presenters who are enrolled as undergraduate students at the time of submission. Qualified individuals may enter this poster competition. Two awards will be given at IAFP 2024. Click here for more information.

  • Peanut Proud Graduate Student Scholarship

    Peanut Proud is a nonprofit industry organization, based in Georgia, with the sole purpose of celebrating pride in the peanut industry through humanitarian efforts and recognition of excellence. In 2024, Peanut Proud invites graduate students in the field of food microbiology (U.S. only) – and specifically in the area of peanuts and peanut butter food safety – to apply for a $2,000 academic scholarship. The recipient will also receive travel expenses to attend IAFP 2024 in Long Beach, California. July 14-17, 2024, where the scholarship will be presented. Dedicated students are encouraged to apply for this unique opportunity. The deadline to apply for the Peanut Proud Scholarship is April 26, 2024.

  • Dave Theno Food Safety Fellowship

    The Dave Theno Food Safety Fellowship will be offered to one recent graduate with a food science, animal science, political science, or public health undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college or university with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Preference will be given to those seeking a career in the food industry or food regulation. The application deadline for the 2024-2025 Fellowship is April 5, 2024.
