An In-Depth Look at International Collaborative Foodborne Outbreak Investigations
Feb 25, 2026 (3:00 PM - 4:15 PM Eastern Time)
Webinar Description
Have you ever wondered how an international outbreak investigation actually works? Outbreak investigations are never a solo effort, but the diversity of entities involved is greater than one might imagine; involving representatives from the FDA, CDC, state and local governments, and even industry with a variety of offices and employees working in concert. This eclectic mix of people is compounded when an outbreak has international scope, with authorities from governments like Mexico and Canada working closely with US counterparts. A successful investigation occurs when these entities are able to work together and effectively share information. This webinar will examine the behind-the-scenes collaborative effort required during the investigation of foodborne outbreaks internationally. Speakers will describe how they collaborate and share information and the roles they play during an outbreak investigation. These efforts will be contextualized by providing examples of their actions during an outbreak with an international scope: the Salmonella Sundsvall and Oranienburg outbreak in melons.
Learning Objectives:
-Provide an in-depth look into how collaboration occurs internationally to effectively investigate and respond to foodborne outbreaks.
-Share a success story from an outbreak where international collaboration played a large role.
