Preliminary Program Set for IAFP 2011
Des Moines, Iowa (March 21, 2011) The International Association for Food Protection set the Preliminary Program for IAFP 2011-the Association's Annual Meeting, July 31-August 3 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The meeting has earned recognition as the leading food safety conference. Online registration and preliminary program information are available on the Association Web site.
The meeting kicks off Sunday evening, July 31, with the Ivan Parkin Lecture, followed by the Opening Reception held in the Exhibit Hall. This year's honored lecturer is Dr. Roger Cook, New Zealand Food Safety Authority. Monday morning starts three days of sessions with over 650 presentations including 45 symposia, eight roundtable sessions, 112 technical presentations, and nearly 500 poster presentations. A sample of symposia topics include: 100 Years of Food Law: Examining Legal Supports and Barriers to Science-based Food Safety Systems; Foodborne Disease Outbreak Update: E. coli O145 in Romaine Lettuce; Global Food Safety: What Should We Focus on Today for Results Tomorrow?; One Health Approach to Food Safety; and Egg Safety and Salmonella-Hard Boiled. The Eighth Annual John H. Silliker Lecture will be presented on Wednesday afternoon, featuring Dr. Jorgen Schlundt, National Food Institute Technical University of Denmark. For additional educational opportunities, IAFP 2011 will present three pre-meeting workshops on July 29 and July 30.
This year marks the 100-Year Anniversary for IAFP, which began as the International Association of Milk and Dairy Inspectors in Milwaukee in 1911. Several celebratory events and historic exhibits will take place throughout IAFP 2011.
Attendance is expected to exceed 2,100 of the top industry, academic, and government food safety professionals. This broad mix of attendees includes professionals in quality control, processing operations, regulatory inspections, consulting groups, risk assessment, research and development, microbiological research, plant management, technical services, and HACCP management. The meeting will also showcase more than 125 companies demonstrating the latest products and technologies in the Exhibit Hall.
