International Association for Food Protection Holds 2012-2013 Secretary Election
Des Moines, Iowa (January 19, 2012) The International Association for Food Protection is proud to announce Dr. Alejandro S. Mazzotta and Dr. Peter J. Slade as candidates for the 2012-2013 Secretary. The elected Secretary will assume his position following IAFP 2012 in Providence, Rhode Island in July and will serve a five-year term of successive positions. Ballots will be provided to all Association Members and the election will remain open through March 13, 2012. Election results will be announced in April on the IAFP Web site and in the IAFP Report, and in the May issue of Food Protection Trends.
Dr. Alejandro S. Mazzotta is Senior Director of Global Food Safety with Campbell Soup Company in Camden, New Jersey. Here, he leads the development and implementation of global food safety and quality management systems, Campbell Food Safety and training programs, and is responsible for the assessment of new food safety regulations to assure compliance. Prior to joining Campbell's, Dr. Mazzotta worked for McDonald's Corporation, where he held food safety positions in the corporate and U.S. business groups.
Since joining IAFP in 1999, Dr. Mazzotta has been committed to helping advance the goals of the association, participating in Professional Development Group (PDG) activities and volunteering on various committees including the Awards Committee; Black Pearl Award Selection Committee; Journal of Food Protection (JFP) Management Committee; and Developing Scientist Awards Committee. For the past six years, he has served on the IAFP Program Committee, and currently serves as Chair.
A native of Argentina, Dr. Mazzotta earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees from the University of Buenos Aires and has a Ph.D. from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.
Dr. Peter J. Slade is Senior Director, Food Safety Technical Affairs, with Maple Leaf Foods in Mississauga, Ontario, where he assesses risk associated with new food processing technologies and new product development. He advises on allergen management strategies, supplier approvals, analytical methods, and shelf-life and challenge study protocols. Prior to joining Maple Leaf Foods,
Dr. Slade consulted on new business development in China as Chief Science and Technology Officer with Amerita (Tianjin) Food and Drug Laboratories. He previously was located in China as General Manager at Sino Analytica, an ISO 17025 accredited food testing and inspection service with laboratories in Qingdao and Ningbo.
Dr. Slade has been an active IAFP member for over 25 years. Throughout this time, he has participated in various PDGs and was a member of many committees, including the Program Committee, the Audiovisual Library Committee, the Food Protection Trends (FPT) Management Committee, and the Nominating Committee. Dr. Slade chaired the ad hoc HACCP Task Force and the Tellers Committee, and served as Vice Chair and Chair of the Food Chemical Hazards and Food Allergens PDG. He currently serves on the editorial board for FPT.
Dr. Slade holds a B.Sc. from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom, and earned his Ph.D. at the University of Guelph, Canada.
