International Association for Food Protection Holds 2011-2012 Secretary Election
Des Moines, Iowa (January 20, 2011) The International Association for Food Protection is proud to announce Dr. Maria Nazarowec-White and Dr. Donald L. Zink as candidates for the 2011-2012 Secretary. The elected Secretary will assume their position following IAFP 2011 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in August and will serve a five-year term of successive positions. Ballots will be provided to all Association Members and the election will remain open through March 15, 2011. Election results will be announced in April on the IAFP Web site and in the IAFP Report, and in the May issue of Food Protection Trends.
Dr. Maria Nazarowec-White is the Associate Director at the Bureau of Microbial Hazards in the Health Products and Food Branch of Health Canada in Ottawa, Ontario. At Health Canada, Dr. Nazarowec-White manages the programs and administrative activities of the Bureau of Microbial Hazards in the field of foodborne microbial hazards. She is involved in the integration of the research and evaluation programs and in the coordination of microbial research and policy development.
Dr. Nazarowec-White joined IAFP in 1995 and that year received the Developing Scientist Award for her oral presentation. She has attended every meeting since joining IAFP and has contributed to the organization as a member of the IAFP Program Committee, the Nominating Committee, and the Food Protection Trends Management Committee. Dr. Nazarowec-White is a member of several PDGs, has been involved as a convenor of many symposia, given numerous oral and poster presentations, and contributed to the "IAFP Procedures to Investigate Foodborne Illness" manual.
Dr. Nazarowec-White holds a B.S. from the University of Western Ontario, an M.S. from the University of Manitoba, and a Ph.D from the University of Ottawa.
Dr. Donald L. Zink is the Senior Science Advisor for the U.S. Food & Drug Administration's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) in College Park, Maryland. Prior to his current position, he served as a Senior Food Scientist in the Office of Food Safety with CFSAN.
Dr. Zink has been an IAFP member since 1996 and a member of the Capitol Area IAFP Affiliate since 2010. He has been active in IAFP as a past member of the Program Committee and the Selection
Committee and currently serves as Vice Chair of the Foundation Committee. In 2003, Dr. Zink gave the Ivan Parkin Lecture at the IAFP Annual Meeting and has been an invited speaker at numerous meetings, both in the U.S. and internationally.
Dr. Zink holds a B.S. from Abilene Christian University and an M.S. in Microbiology and Ph.D in Biochemistry and Biophysics from Texas A&M University.
