Des Moines, IA (August 10, 2015) - IAFP 2015 was another successful meeting for the International Association for Food Protection. Held in Portland, Oregon, the three-day meeting concluded July 28, 2015 with a record-breaking international audience of more than 3,200 attendees representing 49 countries, 48 states, and six Canadian provinces. The meeting has earned recognition as the leading food safety conference.

IAFP 2015’s Opening Session recognized two Fellow Award recipients, six Travel Award recipients from State or Provincial Health or Agricultural Departments, one Travel Award recipient from a Country with a Developing Economy, and 19 Student Travel Scholarship Award recipients. The Ivan Parkin Lecture followed, featuring Dr. Rhona Applebaum, Vice President and Chief Science and Health Officer with The Coca-Cola Company in Atlanta, Georgia.
Dr. Applebaum spoke on “HACCP: Seven Effective Principles for Every Reason, Season and ‘Special Situation.’”

The program featured more than 1,100 presentations, including 66 symposia, eight roundtables, more than 700 poster presentations, and more than 140 technical presentations. Representatives from 159 companies, including 33 new exhibitors, showcased equipment and the latest innovations in food safety services.

On Tuesday afternoon, the John H. Silliker Lecture featured Dr. Francis “Frank” Busta, Director Emeritus of the National Center for Food Protection and Defense (NCFPD), based at the University of Minnesota, St. Paul. Dr. Busta spoke on “Challenging the Conventional.”

Tuesday night’s Awards Banquet honored excellence in food safety by recognizing 28 individuals and organizations with awards. The evening concluded with the gavel presentation to Incoming President, Dr. Alejandro Mazzotta, Vice President, Global Quality, Food Safety & Regulatory Affairs, Chobani, LLC, New York, NY.
