2009 Annual Meeting

IAFP 2009 was another successful meeting for the International Association for Food Protection. The three-day meeting concluded August 6, 2008 with an international audience of more than 1,700 food safety professionals representing 39 countries, 43 states, and 6 Canadian provinces. The meeting has earned recognition as the leading food safety conference.
Dr. Paul A. Hall, AIV Microbiology and Food Safety Consultants, LLC, Hawthorn Woods, IL, opened IAFP 2009 with the Ivan Parkin Lecture at Sunday’s Opening Session entitled, “Navigating Food Safety through Times of Economic Chaos: A Call to Action”.
IAFP 2009 program featured over 500 presentations including 29 symposia, 3 round-tables, 95 technical and 333 poster presentations. The John H. Silliker Lecture entitled “The 2008 Irish Dioxin Crisis: A Public Health, Food Safety, Economic, Legal, or a Risk Communication Challenge?” featured Dr. Patrick Wall, University College Dublin School of Public Health and Population Sciences Belfield, Ireland, speaking on Wednesday afternoon. Three pre-meeting workshops were conducted to provide additional educational opportunities for attendees. Representatives from 105 companies exhibited equipment and the latest innovations in food safety services.
IAFP’s Awards Banquet honored excellence in food safety by recognizing 27 individuals and organizations with awards. The evening concluded with the gavel presentation to Incoming President, Vickie Lewandowski, Kraft Foods, Glenview, Illinois.
